Why I want to start a brewery in Monterey—Part 1 of 3: Craft beer is really exciting right now

A little over a year ago, I quit my job due to, shall we say, “irreconcilable differences” with management. Since then, I’ve been planning to start a brewery near where I live, here in the Monterey Peninsula area on California’s Central Coast. This is the first post in a 3-part series about why I want to start a brewery in the Monterey area. The first reason I want to start a brewery is because craft beer is really exciting right now.

3 things I learned from Responsible Beverage Service Training (RBS)

A couple weeks ago I took the Responsible Beverage Service Training (RBS) class. The class covered the effects of alcohol on the body, detecting underage customers, and server responsibility. So now I have the Responsible Beverage Service Training certificate! Here are some things I learned from the class.

Why I ran Bay to Breakers and 3 things I learned from it

Last weekend I did Bay to Breakers run in San Francisco. I’m not a runner. I did cross country in junior high, and with the wrestling and track & field teams in high school we did 5-mile runs for conditioning. Still, Bay To Breakers is a 12k run, 7.45645 miles! (Yes, I Googled it.) I have never run this far in my life.

A few weeks ago I did an informal 5k (3.1 miles) as a mini-fundraiser for my friends, Dustin & Angie Crawford’s Relay For Life. My legs hurt for 3 days. Even my abs were sore. So when my friend Jon said that he would be doing Bay to Breakers, I answered very quickly and very certainly, “I’m not.”
